5 Plants That Can Help Take Care of Sensitive Skin

Caring for the skin with natural and ecological cosmetics begins to be, not a luxury, but a necessity, as cases of sensitive skin increase every year.

Irritability, tightness, redness and desquamation are characteristic of sensitive skin. It is a fragile and vulnerable skin in which the hydrolipidic layer has stopped fulfilling its protective function and, for that reason, it reacts disproportionately to stimuli – heat, cold, water or others -, becoming red and inflamed.

Although dry skin is more prone, oily skin may also suffer sensitivity. And, if not remedied in time, it can lead to dermatitis.

In the same way, male skin can be sensitized, since shaving, especially if it is daily and done with foams or other cosmetics with a lot of alcohol, is aggressive and irritating.

Associated with sensitivity, there may be circulatory problems such as couperose, telangiectasia or rosacea, in which there are very marked veins in the area of the cheeks.

Why do I have sensitive skin?

Sensitivity can appear from external causes, such as pollution, climate or the use of aggressive cosmetics, or internal, by certain medications, an unhealthy diet or emotional imbalances.

What cosmetics should I choose?

All skins are susceptible to be reactive if treated with inappropriate cosmetics, exposed too much to the sun or exerted on them any type of physical aggression, such as shaving or excessive exfoliation.

It is important to keep this in mind when choosing the products that are applied on the skin. Sensitive skin needs cosmetics that reduce irritation, soothe and refresh.

If microcirculatory problems are also suffered, it is advisable to apply vasotonic and decongestant assets that facilitate circulation and regulate the permeability of the skin.

What should I avoid?

If you have sensitive skin you can protect it by avoiding:

  • Abrupt temperature changes
  • Cosmetics with toxic chemicals
  • Contaminated environments
  • Processed food
  • Stress situations

What moisturizer should I use in the morning?

As part of the daily routine, it is advisable to apply in the morning a moisturizer that has a suitable plant, such as those indicated below, and that does not contain toxic substances such as petroleum products, synthetic perfumes (highly sensitizing) or chemical sunscreens.

How do I clean it at night?

Cleaning at night should be gentle and with a fluid cleansing milk, since many sensitive skins do not allow cleaning with solid soaps because of their very basic pH.

Then a soothing and refreshing tonic is applied and then a cosmetic rich in nourishing and moisturizing ingredients.
